Technic: Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055) – Part 4

Saturday, 30th December 2017 By Caz

Time for another final hit at the Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055) set. Bags 7 & 8 produced the final pieces to finish the model.

And after more hard work, here it is!

I wasn’t expecting the finished thing to be so huge. It barely fitted on my white photographic background foam board!

And of course, it is motorised, so here’s a quick video showing it in action. The forwards/backwards motion is VERY slow because the thing is so damned heavy, but the conveyors tip rubble into the truck quite quickly.

Haul #7: eBay & Bricklink Arrivals

Friday, 29th December 2017 By Caz

I had a Bricklink order arrive today, some tiles and a few larger bricks for making Micropolis bases. Plus a couple of lots from eBay – one with a load of 16×16 baseplates (again for Micropolis modules) and a mixed lot of light bluish grey stuff, to be used for all sorts of things. Now all I need to do is sort it!

Technic: Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055) – Part 3

Thursday, 28th December 2017 By Caz

I’ve had a break from Technic for a few days, while I enjoyed building the Architecture themed sets I got for Christmas. But today it was back to the Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055), which I still haven’t finished yet. It was time to attack the biggest stage – all those bags numbered 6.

This gave me the eponymous bucket wheel and another bit of conveyor, mounted onto a frame. It’s still not done yet, but I’ve run out of time for today.

Haul #6: Asda Shopping

Wednesday, 27th December 2017 By Caz

I have visitors coming over to stay tomorrow so I had to go shopping. At the supermarket, I accidentally found some LEGO in my basket at the checkout, oops.

I mostly bought this Joker Balloon Escape (70090) set for the minifigs – giving me a manically grinning Joker and of course, Batman himself. I’m not sure I will keep the rest of the set made up, but I did put it together once just to see what it looked like. I forgot to take a photo before dismantling it again!

And talking of minifigs, I grabbed half a dozen Ninjago Movie CMFs, as I don’t have any of these yet.

Architecture: US Capitol Building (21030)

Tuesday, 26th December 2017 By Caz

The Architecture: US Capitol Building (21030) set is the biggest I got for Christmas. It kept me amused for most of Boxing Day while I was still feeling grotty with the lurgy. It’s a lovely model with loads of details and a shed load of Erling (headlight) bricks (4070)! It took a few hours to build but was very satisfying.

All that sand green for the roof! Lovely!

Architecture: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035)

Monday, 25th December 2017 By Caz

Another big set I got for Christmas is the iconic Architecture Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035), which is one I have been wanting since I first seeing the theme. The real building is a mad shape and it has been rendered very well in LEGO here. It’s the second time this subject has appeared in the Architecture line. The original set (21004) was one of the earliest Architecture sets released – but personally I’m not keen on it as it is far less detailed and there are too many studs visible.

This version, however, is much closer to the real thing, and is perfectly in scale for Micropolis – the yellow taxis on the road in front are exactly the same as they would be in Micropolis. I am contemplating whether I should put it on a Micropolis 1/2 block base, but I will have to see. It does look good on the base it comes with in the meantime.
