I was recently asked if I could take up to 6 photographs of LEGO’s not-yet-released Architecture set Trafalgar Square (21045) in the real Trafalgar Square – for a social media campaign by LEGO. This wasn’t a paid assignment, but I did receive the model to build before its release date, which was rather nice.
I was on a bit of a tight schedule due to various work and travelling commitments at the time, (I don’t actually live in London but am working there at the moment). So after building the model at home, I carefully boxed it up and took it to work in my bag, and then visited Trafalgar Square on the way home that evening. The weather wasn’t playing ball, but it gave me the opportunity to scout out some locations, and at least get something in the bag. These were the best pictures I managed to take on my first visit:

While these weren’t my best work by any means, at least I had some insurance images to uphold my end of the bargain, and I had found what I thought would be the perfect location – just not the perfect weather, yet.
I decided to try again the next morning.
My luck was in! Apart from the inconvenience of having to get up to catch a train an hour and a half earlier than normal, it was a beautiful morning with bright blue sky and plenty of sun.
I headed to Trafalgar Square on my way to work this time, and set about getting the images I really wanted.

Much better than before! But I also managed to get what I thought would be the real “money shot”:

Having processed the images when I got home, I emailed them off to my contact at LEGO and now I wait patiently for the promo campaign to appear “sometime soon” on social media… I will let you know when I spot it!
Update: Here it is!
