Monofigure Habitats #6

Tuesday, 4th May 2021 By Caz

The next three installments of my Monofigure Habitat project are The Girl About Town, The Sandcastle Architect and The Astronauts.

The Girl About Town is a striking figure in dark red, striding purposefully away from the doorway of a club where she has had a great night out dancing and socialising with her friends. She’s ready for her next adventure.

The Sandcastle Architect and his habitat are built in tan – the perfect colour for the beach. He’s been very busy building his castle down on the shore, with the sea wall and promenade behind. A few finishing touches and it will be done!

These two intrpid astronauts are embarking on a spacewalk outside their Space Station, doing some maintenance and making sure their habitat is in full working order. They are big fans of our favourite LEGO astronaut Benny, so of course the Blue habitat had to involve space!

Sky Blue Place – Micropolis Block #194

Friday, 14th August 2020 By Caz

My latest Micropolis model is called Sky Blue Place, and is the office of a firm of consultants who have a reputation for blue sky thinking. They are obviously doing well as this five storey block is located downtown among some prime real estate.

Kiina House – Micropolis Block #48

Tuesday, 30th October 2018 By Caz

How not to make a cube look boring… This LEGO Microplis block is called Kiina House, named after the Bionicle set from which a couple of the detailing pieces come. The triangular windows on the street corner and zig zag panes to the rear also give the block visual interest.

MOC: Central Police Station

Sunday, 25th February 2018 By Caz

Micropolis has had a General Hospital and Fire HQ for a while now, so I thought it was about time I built the Central Police Station too. I opted for transparent light blue windows and canopies, some transparent dark blue half-cylinders and white with blue as my colour scheme.

There is a covered walkway to the entrance where a statue of the Police Commissioner stands guard. Once inside the building, access to the upper floor is via one of the two elevators in the darker blue pillars.

The first floor has a commanding view across the city, with a built-in helipad on top. Round the back is the pound for towed vehicles with room for a few patrol cars too. Odds and ends in white and dark bley provided the roof greebles.

The Police work closely in conjunction with their colleagues at Venom Security Inc., so I have decided to site the building just across the road in my layout.

MOC: Pastel Heights

Thursday, 15th February 2018 By Caz

My recent haul from Watford has given me quite a few useful pieces to construct another Micropolis block – things like white 1×2 and pale blue 1×1 bricks. I combined these with some pink 1×2 SNOT bricks (47905 with two studs on opposite sides – I didn’t have any of the more appropriate one-sided version, 87087). The high rise residential tower Pastel Heights was born.

I added some landscaping in the rear courtyard so the residents will have somewhere nice to sit. And the penthouse flat takes up the whole of the top floor. The view from up there must be great!

Once again, I used the same elements on each floor but varied their placement to give some variety to the build. I topped it off with some magenta sloped bricks I had in my drawer (I think at least some of them were in one of the earliest Creative Brick Boxes 10698 I bought last year and have been wondering what to do with since). Plus some white 2×2 turntable bases and 1×2 grilles for roof greebles.

MOC: Butterfly Batteries & Solar

Tuesday, 14th November 2017 By Caz

After yesterday’s Pick-A-Brick haul from Westfield Stratford, I thought I would try to make something with a bunch of yellow 1×4 bricks, some large blue plates and a few bits and bobs which had just arrived from eBay. I came up with this MOC for my Micropolis layout, Butterfly Batteries & Solar. I imagine it to be a small business housed in a light industrial unit, manufacturing batteries and solar panels for their tiny customers.

You can see I already made good use of one of the hexagonal panels from the 75038 Jedi Interceptor which I dismantled a few days ago! I have plans for its cockpit canopy too, but that is for another post another time…

Initially, I was a bit disappointed with the blocky nature of the build until I spied the butterflies and a few other yellow bits and pieces in my parts bins, to add to the roof – as well as those rather nice smooth curved 2×4 tiles. With a bit of extra decoration and some landscaping, it all came together well. There are two delivery vans parked out front and a larger truck making a delivery at the rear shuttered door.
