I’ve been wanting to make some more industrial structures for my microscale city for some time, and decided that a small factory would be my next project. The Boot Factory will form a quarter block plot somewhere on the outskirts of the airport, along with some other industrial units.
As I was fiddling around with some curved bricks and plates recently, this small light industrial factory building seemed to emerge, with definite echoes of Art Deco architecture – one of my favourite periods of design. When I was trying to finish it off, I found a matching mobile phone tile to use as an outdoor sign, so this naturally became the home of Micropolis Mobiles, one of the most successful telecommunications firms in the city.
I wanted to make a few more models for the industrial zone in Micropolis, so I started messinga about with a few bricks and some blue 1x6x5 support struts. Eventually I came up with this, which I decided was a paint factory.
So far, my Micropolis models have been mostly very clean and well kept buildings. But with this model, I decided to go for a more gritty feel and put together a Chemical Factory which sits in the heart of the industrial area. Excatly what they are making and storing on site is far from clear, but the warning signs on the tanks don’t give you much reassurance.
