This is another Micropolis block which was originally designed with Lego Digital Designer. Again, it sat on my hard drive for ages as the parts to make it seemed inordinately expensive. Eventually, I figured out why – although this 1×2 Technic Brick with 2 holes does exist in blue, it was only ever in 3 different sets in the late 90’s, early 2000’s – and all of them had very limited availability. Then an AFOL friend suggested I just replace the 1×2 bricks with two 1×1 Technic equivalents. Now why didn’t I think of that? And that’s exactly what I ended up doing – it doesn’t look too bad at all.
Virtual MOC: Alexa Apartments
Having had a little success in building my first Micropolis module out of real bricks, I turned to virtual reality to see where my imagination could take me. I’ve only just started using Lego Digital Designer. I know there are other tools out there which can do more, but the learning curve for LDD was steep enough! And for the moment, it does all that it needs to for me, so I shall be sticking with it. Here are a couple of overview shots of the “front” and “side” views.

It has a fully-furnished lobby with reception desk, seats for visitors waiting for friends and a couple of elevators.

And of course, being an exclusive development, there is a private rooftop pool area where the residents can relax away from the noise and hubbub below.

I quite enjoyed virtually putting this one together. Whether it will ever get built remains to be seen.
