Haul #5: Christmas Pressies

Monday, 25th December 2017 By Caz

It’s been years since I got any LEGO for Christmas, but this is the first Festive season since I emerged from my Dark Ages – and I was very lucky with what Santa brought me this year. It’s cheered me up since I’m feeling rather ill at the moment. I will enjoy building them and it should take my mind of my lurgy.

Pictured are three Architecture sets – New York Skyline (21028), US Capitol Building (21030) and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035). Plus Simple & Powered Machines (9686) and another copy of the Catwoman Catcycle Chase (70902), which came as a freebie from Amazon I believe. The machines set will hopefully be useful for building some GBC modules, along with all the Technic bits I have in the Bucket Wheel Excavator. The show I will be exhibiting at is in mid-January, so I need to pull my finger out and build something for it!

Advent: Day 24

Star Wars - Day 24
Star Wars – Day 24

Two very festive builds today, on the last day of Advent. Star Wars gives us a snowboard-riding BB8 Minifig with a red Santa hat. I think they missed a treat here by not making him into a snowman – after all, he’s the perfect shape!

And of course Santa Claus himself features in the 24-in-1 build. He has a gift to deliver, and I love the use of the white croissant piece to represent a big bushy moustache to go with his beard!

There is a handy hover-sled behind the Star Wars door today, just the thing to get those presents delivered – might as well start early to avoid the Christmas rush!

And talking of Christmas, this lovely little tree is the build for today from 24-in-1, festooned with ornaments.

Star Wars - Day 22
Star Wars – Day 22

This is a miniature AT-ST Walker, which given its diminutive stature is actually pretty true to the right shape. I’m not sure it’s much of a threat though!

Perhaps the pilot is heading towards the pile of presents which the 24-in-1 gave us today? Here! Hands off!

Meetup: London AFOLs December 2017

Monday, 11th December 2017 By Caz

I’ve only been to one London AFOLs meetup so far, but have been made very welcome indeed and now feel part of the AFOL “family”. Today was their Christmas Party, which I had been looking forward to for ages.

The first excitement was the Secret Santa table – there was a budget limit of £15 and if you brought along a gift you were allowed to choose one to take away.

I chose this one with stags on the wrapping paper as my present to take home. You will have to wait until tomorrow to see what I got!

The contents of the raffle table nearly made my eyes pop out of my head. So many great sets up for grabs.

I had my eye on this box – which would have been my favourite choice if it worked that way.

The big ted was built by Fairybricks, I believe. And I loved the little NCS spaceship put together by Alec Hole. I bought a fistful of tickets but sadly wasn’t lucky at all! Oh well, maybe next year…

There was LEGO-themed food to eat too – this Minifig Jelly went down very well…

…and I can recommend these chocolates in the shape of LEGO bricks – delicious!

Plenty of other party food too, and lots of chat amongst us all. We also played Pass The Parcel with little gifts dropping out of the wrapping paper we tore into when the music stopped. I won a little City Polybag, so at least I wasn’t completely empty-handed.

The group gathered for a party shot at the end, this one thanks to Jonathan Gale.

All in all it was a splendid do, which I enjoyed very much.
