Monofigure Habitats #2

Friday, 16th April 2021 By Caz

My first trio of Monofigure Habitats proved popular, and I’m pleased to show you another three today, featuring The Rock Star, The Mountaineer and The Downhill Skier.

Mr Red is The Rock Star with a bold moheecan haircut, a bright red axe and a very loud stack of amps behind him. His stage is littered with set dressing and he has a cup of something strong on a table to one side for when he needs to oil his vocal chords and reach the high notes.

From one kind of rock to another, Mr Dark Bluish Grey is The Mountaineer is at the bottom of a very steep, very high mountain which he is about to climb. He has all the gear, but far off in the distance it appears he may have been beaten to the summit by someone who got up earlier!

Mr White is The Downhill Skier and is about to make his final run to go for gold. The starting gate is about to beep and he will be on his way, sliding down the precipitous slopes at a rate of knots.

MOC: Central Police Station

Sunday, 25th February 2018 By Caz

Micropolis has had a General Hospital and Fire HQ for a while now, so I thought it was about time I built the Central Police Station too. I opted for transparent light blue windows and canopies, some transparent dark blue half-cylinders and white with blue as my colour scheme.

There is a covered walkway to the entrance where a statue of the Police Commissioner stands guard. Once inside the building, access to the upper floor is via one of the two elevators in the darker blue pillars.

The first floor has a commanding view across the city, with a built-in helipad on top. Round the back is the pound for towed vehicles with room for a few patrol cars too. Odds and ends in white and dark bley provided the roof greebles.

The Police work closely in conjunction with their colleagues at Venom Security Inc., so I have decided to site the building just across the road in my layout.

MOC: Pastel Heights

Thursday, 15th February 2018 By Caz

My recent haul from Watford has given me quite a few useful pieces to construct another Micropolis block – things like white 1×2 and pale blue 1×1 bricks. I combined these with some pink 1×2 SNOT bricks (47905 with two studs on opposite sides – I didn’t have any of the more appropriate one-sided version, 87087). The high rise residential tower Pastel Heights was born.

I added some landscaping in the rear courtyard so the residents will have somewhere nice to sit. And the penthouse flat takes up the whole of the top floor. The view from up there must be great!

Once again, I used the same elements on each floor but varied their placement to give some variety to the build. I topped it off with some magenta sloped bricks I had in my drawer (I think at least some of them were in one of the earliest Creative Brick Boxes 10698 I bought last year and have been wondering what to do with since). Plus some white 2×2 turntable bases and 1×2 grilles for roof greebles.

MOC: Monochrome Court

Wednesday, 24th January 2018 By Caz

I wanted to use some of the smaller clear transparent windscreen pieces I got in the big eBay haul the other day, along with some clear 1×2 bricks from my stock. My last building was very colourful but I decided to stick to a black, white and dark grey palette for this one, and so it became Monochrome Court. The wheel arches were a recent find at Stratford PAB wall, where I picked up a handful and thought they would make good architectural features. I used them here to frame the top storey windows and one at each end of the ground floor.

The white bow pieces finished off the roof and echoed the arches. And now I look at the building after putting it together, it reminds me very much of some parts of the Barbican Centre in London (see this image taken a while back).

I added some landscaping and ponds out front (also a feature of the Barbican Centre) and a little bridge to get across to the main doorway, and the module was done.

Virtual Micropolis: Lever Court

Virtual MOC Lever Court - Front
Virtual MOC Lever Court – Front

A few days ago I was noodling around with my 3D sketch for this build, but I decided to use LDD to flesh it out a bit more.

It’s now so far from the original model in Tom Alphin’s book that I feel justified in calling it a MOC.

I have expanded the 3D sketch even further, giving the build two side wings surrounding a central raised core. The upper levels are on the diagonal again, to give a bit of dynamism.

I would like to build this one sometime, I need to gather enough trans light blue bricks first, however.
