Monofigure Habitats #3

Monday, 19th April 2021 By Caz

I have three more Monofigure Habitats to show you today, Ms Green The Mermaid, Mr Medium Nougat The Baker and Mr Yellow, the Pharaoh.

The Mermaid is sitting at the bottom of the ocean surrounded by seaweed, an old ship’s wheel and some bubbles heading for the surface. She’s about to bite into a tasty apple, but I’m not sure where she found that under the water!

The Baker has been busy baking pretzels for his customers. The bakery also features some baguettes, some jars of flour on the shelf and a rather alarming looking spider hoping to gather a few crumbs!

This Pharaoh was obviously very important, because he has been interred in a very ornate pyramid. I got the hidea for this habitat from the excellent headdress piece, and everything else followed from there. The walls are decorated with frescoes but the poor pharaoh appears to be roaming around inside – perhaps he’s on the lookout for grave-robbing archeologists!

My first six Monofigure Habitats were all designed physically first, but as I got further into the project, I decided to use Stuid.io to design the Habitats before ordering the pieces I needed. The programme has the option to just show pieces in one specific colour, which was invaluable for being able to see the more unusual elements which were available to make each model. I’ve been juggling BrickLink wish lists for months now! Some of you asked if you will see more than three habitats stacked together – the answer is yes. But not yet, as I don’t whant to spoil the reveal of the finished project, which ist still in progress!

This next Micropolis module is an imposing office block for downtown Micropolis. It is called Apis Heights, and was built from PAB components and some bricks I had in my store.

Ideas: Beatles Yellow Submarine (21306)

Monday, 1st January 2018 By Caz

I got the Beatles Yellow Submarine (21306) set for my birthday, and after enjoying a meetup at the pub with friends, I came home and decided to build it with Alistair “helping”. There were five numbered bags, not too many bits in each so it was easy to build when ever-so-slightly squiffy after the pub!

Most of Alistair’s “helping” seemed to consist of placing the Brick Separator in random wrong places. “Unauthorised Brick Separator In The Bagging Area!”

Eventually I managed to get the brick separator out of his hands for long enough to finish the job properly. I loved the minifigs, and the really original use of red frankfurters as the conning tower railings!

So all in all an enjoyable build. The only thing I will say is – what the hell is this? Also included in the set…

What?
What?

MOC: Butterfly Batteries & Solar

Tuesday, 14th November 2017 By Caz

After yesterday’s Pick-A-Brick haul from Westfield Stratford, I thought I would try to make something with a bunch of yellow 1×4 bricks, some large blue plates and a few bits and bobs which had just arrived from eBay. I came up with this MOC for my Micropolis layout, Butterfly Batteries & Solar. I imagine it to be a small business housed in a light industrial unit, manufacturing batteries and solar panels for their tiny customers.

You can see I already made good use of one of the hexagonal panels from the 75038 Jedi Interceptor which I dismantled a few days ago! I have plans for its cockpit canopy too, but that is for another post another time…

Initially, I was a bit disappointed with the blocky nature of the build until I spied the butterflies and a few other yellow bits and pieces in my parts bins, to add to the roof – as well as those rather nice smooth curved 2×4 tiles. With a bit of extra decoration and some landscaping, it all came together well. There are two delivery vans parked out front and a larger truck making a delivery at the rear shuttered door.

MOC: Rainbow Town

Monday, 16th October 2017 By Caz Leave a Comment

I  have decided to start a separate blog for all my LEGO bits as the Toybox was getting a bit crowded with little blocks of plastic – and some of the builds I now create are a bit less “toy” than the stuff over there. Plus, I’ve recently come out of my Dark Ages and wanted to share the fun. I hope you enjoy.

Rainbow Town was made with one of my first big boxes of LEGO bits bought when I emerged from my Dark Age. I liked sorting them into colours and thought I would see what I could make out of each set. I’m not sure if its some sort of dystopian nightmare or if it would be a nice place to live!
